Quick trip to Matsuli

We should have went to bed, but last night a constant drone of music and drums kept us awake. It started again tonight so we thought we'd head down and scope it out. According to Sae, it is a matsuli - a type of festival that is held at a shrine. This one was taking place at the shrine that can be seen from our apartment window.

It was a very interesting experience. Lots of dancing, drums, and vendors selling all different types of food. Sae had me try some type of fruit sugar candy which is basically a dental fillings worst nightmare. We listened to the music for awhile, took in the scenes, and then called it an eveninig. I think one of the more memorable moments was watching the dancing and the drummers. There was one younger girl drummer and it was nice to see - always good to see the younger generation continuing traditions.
